PHILADELPHIA — Former U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) made a return visit to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection to receive a commendation from City Council for his years of work on disability access and rights, and PCHR Chair Thomas H. Earle was part of the cheering delegation. 
Harkin most recently was in the city as part of #ADA25, the commemorative activities celebrating the progress of the disability rights movement since the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Senator Harkin has long been a leader on this front, well before it was popular,” Earle said. “He brought attention to the unmet concerns of millions of Americans, and millions more who were not yet born when he helped push through the ADA. In the city where democracy was born, it was appropriate for us to honor him in this fashion.”
